Celebrating mass-produced, frugal, aesthetic design from india

The mighty Indian Razor

What is that ?

An everyday  use object  for the common Indian man.

A razor.

Ok, got it. But, whats so special about it ?

Well , the aesthetics for one. That simple design ,which traps the razor blade between the two flaps looks like stuff vintage designs are made of . Secondly, the sheer numbers in which its sold on Indian roadsides tells the story of its ease of use  and functional relevance.

Hmm..interesting. Whats it made of ?

Well , this one is made of steel with a golden colour paint coating.

The price ?

15 rupees ! Thats less than 0.40 dollars !  Its multinational contemporaries are far more in price.

Woah ! where can I purchase this ?

Just take a stroll  on the busy marketplaces of any Indian town/ cities. You will sure find it with vendors selling low-cost household items. I bought this from stalls in Bhandup west area near Dreams mall in Mumbai.
